Buying a house is great. Getting someone else to help pay for it is even better.
Government programs to assist qualified homebuyers start at the federal level and then trickle down to the state, county, and city agencies.
You can find a multitude of Federal programs through The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Look under Homeowner Assistance.
Programs include $100 down for a new home, to funding repairs of your home. There’s even a program through HUD called Good Neighbors Next Door. The program is limited to police, teachers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians. It allows them to buy a HUD home at a 50% discount! That’s half price!
At the state level, Florida has the State Housing Initiative Program commonly known as SHIP which helps with down payment and closing costs.
USDA offers 100% financing to borrowers outside city limits and within city limits the Community Re-Development Agency, CRA is tasked with home improvement and home purchase funding. It’s important to note that many agencies have limited funding so go early and find out what programs and terms you qualify for. Once qualified have the government help pay for your new home.
